Partners and merchants on Rootline can now offer PayPal through the same API they already use. Platforms get it across their entire merchant base without writing new code.
At checkout, it's another way to pay, sitting next to other payment methods. Behind it, PayPal lands in the same Rootline settlement and reconciles in one place, with refunds, cancellations, and disputes handled through the same tools.
PayPal is available through every supported checkout integration.
"PayPal matters in our core markets, so we built it directly into Rootline, available to every merchant, and reconciled in the same place as everything else." - Barry Landegent, Operations at Rootline.
"Since we went live with Rootline in January, we’ve seen strong traction growth. That clearly reflects the real demand from consumers, platforms and merchants to have PayPal available in the checkout wherever they shop or do business,” - Maarten Zwaan, Director, Market Lead for Benelux and Ireland at PayPal.
What this means for platforms
Rootline powers payments for platforms. It lets them build payments deep into their product and serve their merchants with payments, accounts, and reporting, the way a PSP serves a merchant directly.
PayPal fits straight into that. A platform enables it for its merchants through the same integration, with the same checkout. Payments come through the checkout the platform already built. Disputes settle in reports merchants already read. Payouts run through the Rootline accounts merchants already use.
The SaaS setup
One PayPal account for the whole platform.
The platform holds a single account for every merchant it serves, so no merchant opens its own. Volume pools under one account, so the platform sets the pricing its merchants pay and keeps PayPal as part of how the platform earns. Before, merchants had to go through the process of contracting with PayPal directly. Now, they can be onboarded under the platform's contract, removing the onboarding friction and improving economics for both the platform and its merchants.
Merchants with their own PayPal contract are supported too, right alongside the SaaS setup. Rootline handles both models, including hybrid setups.
